Saint Patrick’s Day is on Monday, and even though I know it isn’t necessarily an international holiday, I just couldn’t pass up sharing some Irish-themed links! Also, I’ve been on a healthy, no-processed-food eating kick… but all of the dessert links I found this week may indicate that I might not be as committed to veggies as I thought… ha!

  • Rainbows seem to be a major theme for Saint Patrick’s Day. I guess it is because you can find the leprechaun’s pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! There are a bunch of awesome-looking rainbow cake tutorials out there — like this “leprechaun trap” mason jar cake, these teeny tiny rainbow cakes, and these miniature rainbow cakes — but they all look fairly difficult and time consuming. Have you ever made a rainbow cake? Was it worth the work involved?
  • Of course, Lucky Charms are a pretty obvious Saint Patrick’s Day go-to. These [linklove_3.15.14

Have an awesome end of September!

monday link love just for you!

It is hard to believe, but I am still making my way through the hundreds of amazing postcards that Travis and I received for the “Thank You Swap-bot” swap that happened in June. There are just so many wonderful notes and handmade postcards that I am taking my time going through them and thanking each sender.

Above are postcards from MissiveMaven, FarStarr, LauraDiamong, KindledWhimsy, angellarae, and mskadie.

The kind notes about Swap-bot are very meaningful and appreciated. Running this website for more that seven years has been fun and rewarding, but it also entails dealing with 24-hour complaints and problems. It can be overwhelming… so knowing that there are many users who are enjoying the site keeps us motivated. Thank you so much for your support!

And now, some fun links to enjoy this week:

Happy Monday and happy swapping!

Links from BlogHer12 + GIVEAWAY!

In an attempt to spread the good word about Swap-bot and to learn more about running an online business, I sometimes attend conferences. You may remember my posts about Blogher in 2010 and BlogHer Handmade last year. Last week, I was at BlogHer 2012 right here in New York City, and I picked up a few links for you:

  • Martha Stewart was one of the keynote speakers. She was as arrogant confident as ever, but she was also really funny. She is definitely a hard worker and I think she might be a genius. Anyhoo, she has a new show, Martha Stewart’s Cooking School, starting in October on PBS. It looks very lovely.
  • Not a blog, but maybe a helpful tool: RescueTime. Track how you spend your time online and be more productive.
  • Girl Around Town – A women’s lifestyle site (similar to Daily Candy) covering NYC, Houston, and LA.

Now for the GIVEAWAY!

Like usual, attendees received quite a bit of swag at BlogHer 2012. I didn’t want to be greedy this year, but I did get some fun stuff, as seen below. And, I have a SURPRISE group of goodies to send to one lucky Swap-botter! The surprise swag grab bag will NOT include everything you see below, but it does include some great stuff, plus a healthy dose of Swap-bot postcards, pins, and stickers. Fun!

To enter to win the BlogHer surprise swag grab bag, comment on this post with a link to one of your favorite craft blogs or female bloggers.

You must include your Swap-bot username in your comment. The drawing will be open for entry until Sunday, August 12th. I will randomly select and announce the winner on Monday. Good luck!

Have a fun weekend! I am running a 10-mile race on Sunday, so I’m resting up until then… zzzzZZZZZ.

friday link love: August 12th, 2011

The internet feels a bit quiet lately. Maybe everyone is out soaking up the last bit of summer or preparing for school to start. Whatever the reason for the lull, it means that I couldn’t round up as many links for you this week as I’d like — sadness — but here are a bunch of edible goodies… Enjoy!

I apologize if I made you hungry for sweets…

friday link love: August 5th, 2011

I gathered up quite a few links for you this week! The list is a bit heavy on the food category… I guess I was feeling hungry this week! ha!

Crafty Stuff:

  • I love this idea: Snail Mail My Email – It is a “month-long (July 15 – August 15), interactive community art project which seeks to both share the warm-fuzzy feeling of receiving a personalized letter as well as inspire people to send their own snail mail. In a culture overrun with instant gratification and on-demand services, this project cultivates appreciation for the lost art of letter writing.” You email them with a message and the address of your intended recipient. Their group of volunteers write out your message it and mail it! Very cool.
  • Make a tiny granny square necklace on Dollar Store Crafts.
  • Want to draw fashion sketches? Check out this quick tutorial on I Still Love You.
  • How to knit with sheets on Creative Jewish Mom.
  •’s Top 50 Etsy Moms of 2011.

What other linky goodness did you find this week?

friday link love: July 29th, 2011

I have been somewhat absent around Swap-bot recently. I was chosen for jury duty and the process (of mostly sitting in waiting rooms) took almost two weeks. I was happy to be a part of the judicial process, but in the end, the case settled out of court, so I basically ended up doing nothing. Boo.

BUT, I am happy to be back with another installment of Friday Link Love:

So… I wasn’t able to gather as many cool links this week, so feel free to add more in the comments!

  • Almost too cute: a carnival-themed birthday dessert spread.
  • I may have already share Lovely Package with you. It is a daily blog that showcases awesome examples of packaging design. Very inspiring ideas! Also, Lovely Stationery.
  • If you love cooking and recipes, you might want to check out the brand new site, Gojee. I haven’t explored it much, but it has been described as StumbledUpon for recipes. You can search recipes by ingredient and keep your favorites bookmarked. Plus, the photos are stunning!
  • Speaking of recipes, my newest S’more find: S’more Cupcakes from Sophitimom. I would love that toasted marshmallow icing!!

friday link love: 2011 edition!

Well, it is 2011. I don’t think I was ready, but here we are. The first link love of the new year…

  • Above is an adorable idea for a winter treat from Bakerella: Milk Men! They sounds really easy, just a small jug of milk topped with a powdered donut hole, but so cute! (Side note: My sister-in-law, Chelsea, made some of Bakerella’s cake pops for the holidays and they were awesome! She used the recipe from the Cake Pops cookbook.)
  • If you have snow in your area, like I do, why not make some mini snowmen?
  • If you want to be prepared for Valentine’s Day treats, stock up on those clearance candy canes store are trying to get rid of now. Dabbled has a round-up of ways to turn them into heart-themed treats.

  • I’m intrigued: a recipe for homemade Nutella.
  • This also looks interesting: A tutorial for making your own Mod Podged tile coasters on My Chic Life.
    • Swap-bot user, Titancia tipped me off to the amazing “paper planes” on cloth-ears. All of the items — like wallets, mugs, and tote bags — are decorated in Swap-bot-esque mail theme. Great stuff for snail mail lovers!
    • If you are hosting any type of party in the near future, you must check out TOPS Malibu for fun party favors, decorations, and candles.

friday link love: BlogHer edition + GIVEAWAY

If you read my personal blog or follow my personal Twitter account, you know that I attended the BlogHer conference last weekend in New York. I was not sure what to expect, but since it was hosted near me this year I decided to give it a try. I was hoping to network and spread the good word about Swap-bot. It turns out that there weren’t a ton of art and craft bloggers there, but I did get to do plenty of networking with cool women and I attended some informative classes. Below are some of the links I collected along the way…

Crafty Blogs & Sites:

  • Handmade Detroit – If you are in Michigan, this site is for you. And even if you’re not, the blog has lots of great crafty content.
  • Tonya Staab – This and That – Tonya was on the Etsy blogging panel with me and she is fantastic. Her blog covers just about everything – including cupcakes!
  • DIY Buiness Association – A new blog and organization from Amy Schroeder, Founder of Venus Zine and
  • Teen Angster – The personal blog of Allison, one of the authors of the amazing Etsy blog.
  • The Creative Empire – You already know about Tara Gentile from ScoutieGirl and Megan Auman from Crafting an MBA because I link to their great sites all of the time. The Creative Empire is their new project – a community built to help web entrepreneurs.
  • The Honey Pie Tree – A hand-crafted toy designer’s blog.
  • The Studio Creations – A very pretty art blog by Thais, a Brazilian living in NY.
  • Louise Gale – An artist who hosts the The Creative Color Challenge.
  • Kipiboo – A blog of art and inspiration from a Brooklyn artist.
  • Design Mom – Gabrielle is one of the founders of Kirtsy, a designer, and a mom of six.

Other Blogs:

Other Cool Websites:

  • Indie Biz Chicks – I’ve already linked to this site a couple times, but Crissy’s website is an excellent resource for small business owners.
  • Reware Vintage – a vintage clothing shop and blog.
  • Food on the Table – A meal planning tool. Amanda, the rep, was super-sweet!
  • Cake Lab – The most beautiful and delicious mini cupcakes. I had them at Etsy.
  • Girlfriend Circles – A community that matches up online friends for real world get togethers.
  • Graph Jam – A funny graph builder.

I also picked up a bunch of free swag at the conference. In the expo area companies were handing out free product like it was candy! (And, some of it was candy.) I have a very random group of swag to GIVE AWAY to one person… The package will include a Microsoft tote bag, a Cherrios T-shirt (adult size medium), an Arm & Hammer mouse pad, a new Febreze “Set and Refresh,” a Firefox keychain, a unicorn lollipop, some Downey fabric softener, a General Mills pocket mirror, an AOL pocket notepad and pen, hand sanitizer from Yahoo!, an Etsy party favor pack with lip gloss and pins, and the BIG PRIZE: a $10 gift card to Toys R Us! To enter to win this really bizarre – but great, right? – collection of goodies, comment on this post with a link to one of your favorite craft blogs or female bloggers.

You must include your Swap-bot username in your comment. The drawing will be open for entry until Wednesday, August 18th. I will randomly select and announce the winner next Thursday.

(Plus they mentioned Swap-bot on page 38 of the current issue! sweet!)
  • One more reminder: Enter to win the photo jewelry giveaway from
. The giveaway drawing will be held on Sunday, December 14th.

Since all of us swappers love sending packages, why not send one to a soldier serving our country overseas? Books for Soldiers organizes the process. You simply sign up and then they approve your application and send you the name and address of a soldier who requested the service. According to the site, soldiers sometimes have a lot of downtime and would love to receive books, cds, or dvds to pass the time and remind them of home. You can also send relief supplies (goodies and what not) and penpal letters (a thank you letter would be appreciated, I’m sure). What a great way to send a little love to our brave military men and women!
