Weekly Featured Swap: FIRSTS of the New Year Letter/Postcard

Dec 22nd 2008 06:32:31 am

I am sure that many of you are busy celebrating holidays this week with your families, so I have chosen a less intensive, quick, and easy swap to feature this week: FIRSTS of the New Year Letter/Postcard swap. The requirements of the swap, hosted by iamjenii, are to send a letter or postcard to your partner describing your “firsts of the year.” From the swap description:

“In Japan, the firsts of the new year are important! So let’s share with each other what the firsts of our new years are. Your first movie, outing, detail somethings (positive please!) of your new year to share! Please write your firsts in the form of a letter OR a postcard. Also, you can include ticket stubs. photos or whatever you want. This is a simple swap to share with each other some of each others’ lives :D I know, so cheezy.”

The swap is international and you must have over a 4.7 rating to join. Each participant only sends to one partner (which makes this swap super quick and easy). A great simple swap to tackle in the new year after all the holiday craziness is done!

Weekly Featured Swap: In Pursuit of the Perfect Pen Pal

Oct 27th 2008 06:51:35 am

This week we are featuring a swap which could lead to a life-long friendship: the “In Pursuit of the Perfect Pen Pal” swap hosted by quietlyquirky. If you are a lover of letters, or an avid writer who is looking for a penpal, this swap is for you! For the swap you will have five partners, to whom you will send each a letter describing what you are looking for in a penpal. The high number of partners provides a better chance of finding a great penpal match.

From the swap description:

Do you love having pen pals, but have been frustrated with the frequency or quality of the letters you’ve received in the past? Or perhaps you really would like to establish a true postal friendship with someone you jive with, but you haven’t quite been able to find that special person yet. Or maybe you’d just like to have a loyal swap partner who shares your love of a certain craft. Well, here’s where I hope this swap will assist you in finding the “perfect” pen pal!

Send each of your partners a letter; it can be typed or handwritten, whichever you prefer and use most often. Introduce yourself thoroughly, and then write about what you are looking for in a pen pal. The key here is to be clear and descriptive… For example: If you don’t want to be pen pals with someone who only writes once every 6 months, say that. If you’re looking for someone who loves to read and discuss books, say that.

Some ideas of things to include in your letter:

frequency - will you write once a week, once a month, etc.

style - do you prefer handwritten letters, typed, or both

swap - would you rather just exchange letters, or would you like to do an occasional swap

beliefs - if you’d like to share beliefs/politics/etc. with your pal, or if those do not matter to you in a friend

age - if you’d rather write to someone close to your own age, say so, or state an age range

lifestyle - moms looking for other moms, dog lovers looking for other dog lovers, health nuts looking for other health nuts, etc.

hobbies/crafts - if you’d like to have a pal who shares your love of a specific hobby or craft

rather-nots - whatever you’d “rather not” have :)

The swap is open to USA residents with a 4.5 rating, or higher. New users with a full profile are allowed. The swap is only open for sign up through October 31st, so act quickly if you would like to join. Your letters must be sent by November 21st, 2008. Make sure to read the full swap description before signing up. Happy swapping!

*** We plan to feature a new, unique, public swap each week here on the Swap-bot blog. If you would like to have your swap featured, or have a suggestion for a weekly featured swap, please let me know at rachel [at] swap-bot.com. The swaps must have some sort of creative aspect (not just purchasing items), they must be public, and the coordinator must be in good standing on Swap-bot. The more unique and creative, the better! ***

weekly featured swap: Ghost of Christmas letter swap

Nov 12th 2007 02:40:37 pm

(I was out of town last week and could not keep up with the ol’ Swap-bot blog. I hope you are not suffering from swap-of-the-week withdrawal!)

For this week I have chosen to feature the Ghost of Christmas letter swap, hosted by Chickpea. I don’t think I have ever featured a letter swap before and this one is quite creative.

For the swap you are assigned two partners, to whom you must send a letter detailing things you might see if you were visited by the three ghosts from A Christmas Carol. The three things you must write about are as follows:

  • The past. Tell your partner about a past Christmas. Did you receive the Easy Bake Oven for which you were longing? Or did something sad, surprising, or magical happen?
  • The present. What are you doing this holiday season? Are you making an extra special gift for a friend or family member? What’s going on now to make this holiday stand out?
  • The future. What would be your dream Christmas? Would it be a Mini Coop in the driveway or two tickets to Japan? Or would the dream Christmas mean that you wouldn’t have to travel at all, and you could avoid the hustle and bustle of the airports and freeways?

What a nice way to share your Christmas memories and traditions and to learn about Christmases from all around the world! Your letters should be at least two pages long, and handwritten if possible. This is an international swap. You must have a 4.7 rating to participate. Newbies are welcome as long as they have a filled out profile.
