November Giveaway - enter to win!
Nov 9th 2008 03:38:18 pm
Are you ready for another Swap-bot giveaway? This month I have a very cool tool to send to one lucky winner. It is a Xyron sticker maker! Specifically the Xyron 250 2.5” create-a-sticker™. I use my Xyron to create stickers out of all sorts of things, like photos, ribbons, confetti, etc. You simply run any item through the Xyron and it makes the back sticky! Very cool. The Xyron I have for the giveaway comes filled with 20 feet of permanent adhesive. That will last a very long time, but you can purchase refills at most craft stores. (btw, the Xyron company is in no way sponsoring this giveaway, I just really like the product and wanted to give one away… of course, I wouldn’t turn down a sponsored giveaway if any company is interested. hint, hint.)
To enter the drawing for this giveaway simply comment on this blog post with your answer to the following question:
What is your favorite thing to swap and why?
Each person can only enter once. You must have a Swap-bot account in good standing (not suspended) with a valid mailing address to enter. You must include your Swap-bot username somewhere in your comment. You must comment before Friday, November 21st, to be entered in the drawing. The winner will be drawn out of a hat/bucket by a blindfolded Travis on Saturday, November 22nd. If you have trouble commenting on the blog, you can send me an email at rachel [at] swap-bot.com. Good luck!

My favorite thing to swap are Dotee Dolls. They are created with lots of love, in my opinion. Every one that I’ve made and every one that I’ve received have made me smile. They are a tiny reflection of their creator, too. Nothing like getting sweet little day brightener like a dotee in the mail!

What is your favorite thing to swap and why?
My favorite thing to swap is any kind of handmade craft. I love giving and getting homemade items. It is like sharing a little piece of my soul with someone and getting a piece of someone else’s soul in return.

My favorite thing to swap is a Row House! It is so addicting to think that you can actually make something about the size of a napkin look so real and beautiful! They are so decorative too!

My favorite thing to swap is anything hand made as well. I’m always up for trading my hand made stuffies for someone else’s handmade goodies. I already have such a neat and uniquie collection of one of a kind items!

My favourite things to swap are dotee dolls. Its awesome to think that there are lots of little ladies i’ve created hanging up in someones home in different places round the world. Also i have lots of little ladies made out of love. I’ve also learnt different techniques from the different styles i’ve received and starting out with dotees has led me onto new projects to try.

I love swapping matchboxes. Altering them is a quick yet satisfying outlet to express your creativity. Filling them is fun & sometimes challenging. I’ve always been a fan of the ‘many little presents inside one present’ theme, ie: pinatas, gift baskets.

I love to swap anything! I just love to recieve mail that isn’t a bill! But mainly I suppose are letter/postcard swaps as I love to see where people live and how they live.

I love to make handmade goodies as well…especially amigurumi plush! I especially love knowing they are going to a happy home to folks that will love and cherish my work. ^^
AngelaMariex3 on 09 Nov 2008 at 9:46 pm #
I love swapping craft supplies. It’s great. Sometimes your at a store and think “Man, that would work awesome with blahblah” and then it sits in your drawer forever. Then, you turn around and realize you needed something else but spent all your money on the thing you will “eventually use”. Well someone else did the same thing you did. So, now you can swap your supplies and both be happy in the end.
Or another example is: I love Japanese items. It’s hard to get things in the US that are Japanese, Kawaii, etc. But, others either live there or have fairly easy access to it - so why not trade cultural items?
I think trading supplies is great, and don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have the ability to do so!
mscasanova on 09 Nov 2008 at 9:59 pm #
Its hard to say what my favorite thing to swap is because I go thru “moods” some weeks I feel like swaping matchboxes, then ATC, or profile surprises, Cards, letters. BUT whatever it is Imglad I found this wonderfl site with a community of great people! THANK U R&T!

Well, despite the fact that I MOSTLY swap postcards, I actually most enjoy swapping stuffies. Partly because I love making them, and partly because I’ve added several totally unique frogs to my collection
Also, it’s just fun having them around and knowing someone sat down to make this stuffy just for me! making them is awesome too, picking out fabrics and animals to suit my partner.

I think my favorite thing to swap so far has been the matchboxes. It’s pretty weird to think about all the little things that can be put into such a tiny tiny little compartment. I also really liked doing the takeout box swap, which was challenge because you only fit so much into one!
One-on-One swaps are pretty darn rewarding though, you spoil and get spoiled! Plus, you get to know someone really well.

You can see so many different techniques used, and they fit in the palm of your hand! Even though I already have a sticker maker, I still wanted to pop in with my thoughts (I guess if by chance I win, I can always use an extra christmas present for a crafty friend tho eh?) Anyhow, I love to swap for things from other countries for obvious reasons, I have very limited access to them here in the USA. Whether it be postcards, souvenirs, candies, artwork, I love it all! To me it’s such a thrill to receive something (and send) that has seen places and oceans and mountains that I may never possibly see in my lifetime.

My favorite swaps are Charity Swaps.
I get great pleasure sending care packages to soldiers overseas, knitting hats, scarves and the like for orphans or victims of tragedy. Donating small amounts to people in impoverished areas of the world so they can create a small business to put food on the table and school their children. Donating small amounts to fully fund a school project not covered by ever tightening school budgets so children can have pencils, crayons or books. Many of these swaps include sending your swap partner information about the charity you support and why they are important to you and in return learning which charities are important to your partner and why. These accounts are a joy to read and inspirational; learning of the good done by our Swap-Bot community is very uplifting. I believe it is important to remember to spread the swap love beyond ourselves. It takes so little to make a positive change in the world around us. Even a small pebble tossed into a large pond can create long reaching ripples! I want my ripples to be good ones!
Thanks for asking!

sounds stupid but I like to swap coupons…because it saves me and the swapper money and we get what we both want and need for ourselves and our family

My favorite thing to swap are Artist Trading Cards. On a small canvas, which I think Artist Trading Cards are, you get a window into the world of one or more art forms your partner is involved in or might be trying for the first time. I have a beautiful collection of 300 or more canvases of great artists.

Favorite thing to swap?!? I am bad at making decisions! I love to swap everything, love to get mail, love to connect. Today I’ll pick matchboxes because not only are they arty outside, there’s a surprise inside too. :O)

Hi!
My favorite thing to swap would be crochet squares because they are easy and inexpensive yet at the end of the cycle when you put them all together you have a beautiful, handmade, one of a kind afghan from all over the world!
Thanks for making swap-bot so much fun!

My friends and I have a monthly cupcake swap. There’s a theme (usually something impossibly abstract, such as “teenage angst”) and the idea is to push the boundaries of acceptable pastry-making to its very limit. Sometimes there are winners, sometimes there are prizes, but mostly it’s just a heck of a lot of fun. I’d recommend it to anyone.

oooh, paper scraps, easily. they are the most inexpensive thing - most crafters have a stash - it’s fairly quick to fill an envelope so you can have several swap partners - and yet, when you receive them in the mail, it’s sheer happiness for a paper crafter! little bits of inspiring paper from other parts of the world, it’s just great.

My favorite thing to swap is quilt block squares.
Thanks for the chance to win.
Why? Because I love receiving a finished block from someone else and see their color combinations, the way the block was done, and the best part, I love getting a bio from the swapper & when the blocks come together to make a quilt, I know this ‘one’ came from from a stay at home mom in Michigan, this one is from a grandma in Florida, etc. It makes it so much more than just a swap. Also part of the why, is I LOVE creating something for someone else. It just has a special meaning and I always look forward to hearing their response.

I love swapping ATCs the most. A dirty little secret is that I like making them more than receiving them, I love pushing the limits on what I can do on my ATCs and figuring out new techniques to use on them. What I like most about receiving ATCs from people all over the world is that I can show off my really cool collection to my friends and family.

My favorite thing to swap . . . I really enjoy the challenges (lists, whimsey jars, etc and the scavenger hunts look like they would be a blast). I love to swap profile surprises! I just get a kick out of surprising people with a little knick knack that their profile’s requested or theming my gifts around one of their interests. =]

Hard to say…my very favorite swaps were handmade things that were favorite things for people to make. (For example if you love beading, you made something beaded, etc).

HI! I LOVE Swap-Bot and the Artist Trading Cards you turned me on to!!! What a GREAT way to get such awesome ART from all over the world! My collection book is appreciated by all who see it everywhere I go!!! My art students just love to look at it over and over again and “see” something new every time!!! And learn from it!!! ATCs are definately my favorite things to make and receive!!! Plus all the great extras people send along!!!

My favorite thing to swap is a knitted Christmas ornament. I’ve participated in several ornament swaps this year and now have quite a nice collection. They are so cute and all are original and will look so very nice on my tree.
I’m so glad I’ve joined Swap-Bot and I’m having a lot of fun here!

My favorite thing to swap is mixed cds and matchboxes, although recently I have been getting in to ATC’s much more!
JenDiggityDirt on 19 Nov 2008 at 7:47 am #
I never would have thought it, but so far my favorite thing to swap has been [lists and other simple, written projects on sheets of blank paper or index cards](http://flickr.com/photos/jendiggity/2831408593/in/set-72157607135828871/). I always end up decorating them, using creative lettering, maybe throwing in a litte collage, and adding little bits of color and sparkle. I think I like takingthe simple idea and then just running with it. It makes me feel FREEE!
I love you, Swap-Bot! XOXO

I’d love to win. Right now I’m swapping zines because it is my new obsession. I just discovered them this summer. Okay I knew what they were before that, but I just started buying and reading them this summer and then decided I wanted to make some. What fun is it if you make them and do nothing, so now I’m looking for ways to trade them. Have I rambled on enough?

My favorite thing so far has been handmade items where the theme is up for interpretation, you know, nothing specific. It’s great to see another person’s interpretation. I also am learning to appreciate so many different kinds of crafts!
diana aka dianabanana on 19 Nov 2008 at 2:59 pm #
I love putting together packages around themes. Wether that theme be a movie (like the Amelie swap, so much fun) or around a swappers profile. The combination of creativitly and ingenuity really get me going! I hope I win that sticker maker!!! dianabanana

But, I really love swapping in general this is the coolest thing I have come across in a long time. Sharing with strangers from around the world is really fulfilling and creates alot of great energy that we could all use more of.
