Sponsored Giveaway - Get Eurofied!
Nov 24th 2008 08:55:28 pm
Enter to win this great sponsored giveaway from The Ultimate Handmade European Sample Box. Bree from geteurofied.com is launching an all-European, bi-monthly sample box filled with amazing craft samples from independent artists and crafters from all over Europe on December 1st. A sample box is a great way to find out about up and coming indie artists and crafters. They contain full-size samples of handmade goodies made by small, independent businesses. Bree wanted to give Swap-bot users an early chance to win one of the grand opening Get Eurofied sample boxes. Fabulous!
I asked Bree a few questions about herself and geteurofied.com:
How did you come up with the idea of The Ultimate European Handmade Sampler Box?
I had participated in another sampler box for my own etsy shop and had such a great time creating fun samples. I then purchased The Spotted Box and realized all the sellers participating were based in the states. So I thought… let’s get the Europeans on the map! I am an American living in Denmark for the past two years and I am so inspired by all of the great designs here. Just while walking down the street to grab a cup of coffee I am inspired by the European culture. Then…the story begins.
How did you get involved in independent arts and crafts?
I have always been a creative soul. I remember coloring in my Rainbow Brite Coloring Book and designing outfits with my Tomy Fashion Plates. (uh-oh, did I just give away my age?) That then led me to becoming a Wardrobe Stylist after high school and the creative streak has never gone away. After 10 years of fashion, style and design, it is who I am. I also write a fashion blog that’s filled with fab ETSY shops! I love to be able to dig into my craft stash, turn on some great music and let the party begin!
How does the sampler box help independent artists and crafters?
Get Eurofied is a fantastic way for all of the skilled, independent Europeans to show off their online shops and share their talents with the world. The boxes are filled with handmade items that will show the buyer what kind of quality they will be getting while shopping at each of the participating stores. Once the buyer is enticed by the unique samples it is obvious that they will generate more business.
What types of things will the Get Eurofied sample boxes contain?
Some of the samples are earrings, fabric pouches, brooches, hairpins, necklaces, bookmarks, and MANY more fab surprises! (Go here to see the current list of Get Eurofied participants.) When I say samples I really mean a “FULL SIZE ITEM - ready to use” for yourself or to give as a gift that you will be proud of giving. These boxes are over the top!

My favorite is jewelry. The artists that make the pieces can somehow see right through you and they create some pieces just ‘connect’ with you. Whether its a piece that is a comfort piece, like reminding you of a special person, or a ‘bling look at me’ piece, etc. they are unique & one of a kind.
VJP (Vicki) on 24 Nov 2008 at 11:00 pm #
I love so many things! The more unique, the better. I like altered items and recycled items like utensils made into a vase.
Thanks Rachel!

I usually buy fiber related items; hand dyed yarns and fiber but I am drawn to anything creative - prints, paintings, garments, toys and kids objects, jewelry, photography, soaps, candles, pottery you name it, I love seeing what people create and how they express themselves. In person at shows and exhibits or on line at shops and Etsy; the range and diversity of creativity is breathtaking. How wonderful to see and experience the world as others do through their art.
Thanks and happy holidays!!!

My favorite type of items are jewlery as buying jewelery from independant artists makes them one of a kind and very unique. You can spend $40 at the store to buy a necklace that they have 20 others of the exact same necklace in stock or you can spend $40 and get a beautiful one of a kind necklace that no one else will own or you will find on someone elses neck plus the compliments I get make it all worthwhile. I can, an do, make these things myself, but I still like to buy them, because my own experience with making them makes me appreciate the design work and skill of execution that other people put into their work.

My favorite type of item to purchase is whatever draws me. I recently purchased a beautifully made magnetic bracelet from a craft fair because it was something I had never seen before and it drew my interest. I have a wide band of interest in all things craft. When I see something different or new or unique it makes me more willing to hand over a fistful of hard-earned dollars. I don’t have one specific thing that is my favorite to purchase. I just love all aspects of unique art. I think this European Sample Box would be so amazing! I love art and always have and I would be so grateful!!

I am a big supporter of the handmade movement and I prefer to buy things from indie artists over mass produced items any day! There’s not one particular item I would not consider buying from an indie artist, but the item has to draw my attention or inspire my own creativity in some way!
For instance, I’m a felt plushie maker myself and I just LOVE plushies made by other artists in materials I don’t use or crafts I can’t do myself like amigumumi’s, crocheted stuffies, using leather and tough fabrics! I love collecting plushies and I’m proud to have unique one of a kind handmade ones in my possession

My favorite items to buy are items that inspire me for my own creative doings. I generally don’t “copy”, but love browsing for inspirations to kickstart my next project.
The second favorite would be a ring I bought at a medieval fair last year. It’s made of metal (possibly pewter?) and from yards away it screamed “here I am, look at me, please come and buy me!”.There was NO getting out of THAT one, I had to follow its command…. The artist had a booth FULL of pieces all made of the same material, and no two even looked SIMILAR.

I love to buy small shrines from other crafters. I am also a big fan of buttons, decorated journals and zines. Thanks!!

I love anything handmade and since I discovered etsy (shortly after stumbling into swap-bot), I love to browse hour after hour through all the shops. It’s like window shopping from my living room :o) I love to buy handmade items that I am not able to create myself. In my case those are mainly sewing/crochet/knitting related : handbags, scarfes, amigurumi, stuffies, …
I had a look at the participants of the sample box and even if I don’t win this giveaway, I will probably buy one of those boxes for myself !

I love to buy misc. puzzle pieces, game pieces, old postcards from around the world, vintage wrapping paper, tissue papers (for gifts and collages), Anything that would add something “extra” to my paper crafts. I also like home-made scarves and HATS I’ve bought a couple but stick to my ATC supplies the most.
Awesome Giveaway. THANKS!

I like to purchase things that I do not have the skill to create. Whether that be an Ami pattern, a knitted item, or jewelry that requires soldering. Anything that I do not have the skill level to accomplish. — PurpleTX

I like anything hand-made, especially jewelries. The fact that they invested time and mental energy on them is so sweet and makes me value the items so much more! I think they look better than the ones you buy off the shops.

I enjoy buying items that are made from wood or anything repurposed. Cards and photos are also something I like to but from artists. When someone creates a handmade item from their part of the world that speaks to me, that’s when I buy! thanks, jukejan

I love buying jewelry from independent artists- especially stuff that has been made from other items. I have a beautiful necklace that I bought at a craft fair once- the artist specialised in taking parts from very old, beat up jewelry and making it into new beautiful pieces. I love that she was giving new life to items that would have just been thrown away.

I would love to try this especially for the fashion accessories. I live in Europe but on the Continent itself it seems so much more chic. Also, stationery as nobody can ever have enough of this

I love buying items made and inspired by local landscapes and customs…especially when they’re a bit eccentric.
